K-2nd Exploring Music

In this class, we’ll be exploring the world of music by learning about different composers, movements, genres, regions, and instruments through games, crafts, playing instruments, making instruments, and making music through a variety of ways. Students will walk away with a greater appreciation and understanding of music and creativity after learning about music history, music theory, and the musical cultures of places all around the world. They will also walk away with a greater appreciation of music and an increased sense of creativity! Class time will be spent discussing and listening to music, playing a variety of games and activities, and making music ourselves. Each week will be on a musical genre or era, such as jazz or baroque or Chinese traditional, and organized in chronological order, taking students on a journey through time and around the world. Most weeks will also incorporate a related music theory topic such as rhythm, musical notation, or tempo. Students will be sent home with craft and activity ideas along with assigned listening and other homework. Supplies needed: N/A.  Homework: 30mins-1hr/week, spent on assigned listening, activity sheets and related, and occasional other homework (including crafts, games, and other activities). (Please note that these hours are estimates. Times will vary student-to-student and sometimes week-to-week.). Grading: based on participation (including homework, which will be graded in a pass/fail manner)
