This
class is a basic overview of survival skills and preparedness necessary to
overcome a variety of potential emergency or life threatening situations that
could result from natural or wartime disasters.
There will be weekly hands on projects (i.e. building an outdoor shelter
to sleep in, making various water purification devices, identifying edible
plants, packaging emergency food stores, etc.) Homework includes weekly
readings and a quiz each week. Sometimes various instructional videos will be
assigned to watch. There will be a final exam and paper/project. Supplies
needed include: Army Survival Manual.
Survival pocket knife (parent must sign a hold-harmless waiver
indicating their child has been briefed in safe and proper handling of their
pocket knife and are mature and responsible enough to use it as a tool for
various home projects). Parachute cord. Pack of Mylar food storage bags and a
few bags of varied dry bulk foods. Basic camping gear. Hiking boots. Canteen or
water bottle. Various low-cost or free repurposed materials.
